WORSHIP SERVICE

September 6, 2009 – 10:00 a.m.

Instrumental Prelude

*Call to Worship:  “I Love You, Lord  (Sing Twice)

I love you, Lord, and I lift my voice to worship you.

O my soul, rejoice! Take joy, my King, in what you hear:

May it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear.

*Welcome

*Opening Prayer and Mutual Greeting

*Songs of Praise:        “Thou Art Worthy”

Thou art worthy, Thou art worthy,

Thou art worthy, O Lord,

To receive glory, glory and honor,

Glory and honor and power.

For Thou hast created, hast all things created;

Thou hast created all things.

And for Thy pleasure they are created;

For Thou art worthy, O Lord.

                           “Worthy, You Are Worthy”

       Worthy, You are worthy;

       King of kings, Lord of lords, You are worthy.

       Worthy, You are worthy;

       King of kings, Lord of lords, I worship You.

       Holy, You are holy;

       King of kings, Lord of lords, You are holy.

       Holy, You are holy;

       King of kings, Lord of lords, I worship You.

       Jesus, You are Jesus;

       King of kings, Lord of lords, You are Jesus.

       Jesus, You are Jesus;

       King of kings, Lord of lords, I worship You.

                            “His Name Is Wonderful”

His name is Wonderful, His name is Wonderful,

His name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord;

He is the mighty King, Master of everything,

His name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord.

He's the great Shepherd, the Rock of all ages,

Almighty God is He; bow down before Him,

Love and adore Him; His name is Wonderful,

Jesus, my Lord.

Offering for Pine Grove Summer Worship

     Offertory Song:  “Crown Him with Many Crowns”

     Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne.

     Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own!

     Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee,

     And hail Him as thy matchless King Through all eternity.

     Crown Him the Lord of love! Behold His hands and side-

     Rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified.

     All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me:

     Thy praise and glory shall not fail throughout eternity.

     Crown Him the Lord of life! Who triumphed o'er the grave;

     Who rose victorious in the strife for those He came to save.

     His glories now we sing, who died and rose on high,

     Who died eternal life to bring and lives that death may die.

     Crown Him the Lord of heaven! One with the Father known,

     One with the Spirit through Him giv'n from yonder glorious throne.

     To Thee be endless praise, for Thou for us hast died.

     Be Thou, O Lord, through endless days adored and magnified!

Ministry of Music: His Eye is on the Sparrow”                                Bill Bokhout

*Song of Preparation: Jesus Is Lord of All”

All my tomorrows, all my past- Jesus is Lord of all.

I've quit my struggles, contentment at last! Jesus is Lord of all.

Refrain: King of kings, Lord of lords,

              Jesus is Lord of all;

              All my possessions and all my life,

              Jesus is Lord of all.

All of my conflicts, all my thoughts- Jesus is Lord of all.

His love wins the battles I could not have fought; Jesus is Lord of all.  Refrain

All of my longings, all my dreams- Jesus is Lord of all.

All of my failures His power redeems; Jesus is Lord of all.  Refrain

Scripture:  1 Peter 3:8-18

8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For,

“Whoever would love life

and see good days

must keep his tongue from evil

and his lips from deceitful speech.

11     He must turn from evil and do good;

he must seek peace and pursue it.

12     For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous

and his ears are attentive to their prayer,

but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened.” 15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. 17 It is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. 18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit…

Sermon:  Why in the World?

Applicatory Prayer

*Benediction

*Doxology:                 “Because He Lives”

God sent His Son- they called Him Jesus;

He came to love, heal and forgive.

He lived and died to buy my pardon;

An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Refrain: Because He lives I can face tomorrow;

              Because He lives, all fear is gone.

              Because I know He holds the future,

              And life is worth the living just because He lives.

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,

And feel the pride and joy he gives;

But greater still the calm assurance:

This child can face uncertain days because He lives.  Refrain

And then one day I'll cross the river;

I'll fight life's final war with pain.

And then, as death gives way to victory,

I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He reigns.  Refrain

Pine Grove Church welcomes THE BURGESS BROTHERS for the last in the 2009 Summer Concert Series on today at 6:00 p.m., under the tent. The Burgess Brothers, from the greater Grand Rapids area, started six years ago, following their father’s death, when sister Lori asked the six brothers (Carl, Paul, Dave, Mark, Mike and Tim) to put together a CD for their mom on Mothers Day. A food pantry ministry in the area heard what they were doing and asked them to join two groups in a fund raising gospel concert. They did and have been singing since. A little bit of gospel, a little bit of country and a little bit of contemporary...any style that brings His Message in song. Invite your family and friends to this wonderful evening of music in a relaxed atmosphere under the tent. A free will offering will be received to support the 2009 Summer Concert Series at Pine Grove Church.

Pictorial Directory – There are two packets of new pages available for those who haven’t picked them up yet. One, for those who are here just in the summer, is new pages that were added last September through May, and the other is new pages that were added this summer. You can pick these up in the Welcome Tent if you haven’t already done so.
