DECLARING
OUR FAITH AND THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Public Declaration of Faith of Sarah Kamp,
Jordan Richardson, and John Syperda
The
Vows
Sarah,
Jordan and John, will
you stand now, and in the presence of God and his people respond to the
following questions:
1. Do you believe that Jesus Christ is
the Son of God sent to redeem the world, do you love and trust him as the one
who saves you from your sin, and do you with repentance and joy embrace him as
Lord of your life?
Answer:
I do.
2. Do you believe that the Bible is the
Word of God revealing Christ and his redemption, and that the confessions of
this church faithfully reflect this revelation?
Answer:
I do.
3a. Sarah and John, do you accept
the gracious promises of God sealed to you in your baptism and do you affirm
your union with Christ and his church, which your baptism signifies?
Answer:
I do.
3b. Jordan, do you now wish to be
baptized in the name of the triune God, and will you receive your baptism as a
sign and seal that God accepts you in Christ, forgives all your sins, and
incorporates you into his church?
Answer:
I do, with all my heart.
4. Do you promise to do all you
can, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to strengthen your love and commitment
to Christ by sharing faithfully in the life of the church, honoring
and submitting to its authority; and do you join with the people of God in
doing the work of the Lord everywhere?
Answer:
I do.

*The Reception (congregation stands)
Minister: Sarah, Jordan, and John, in the name
of our Lord Jesus Christ I now welcome you to all the privileges of full
communion. I welcome you to full participation in the life of the church. I
welcome you to its responsibilities, its joys, and its sufferings. "May
the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back
from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with
everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to
him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen" (Heb. 13:20-21).
Congregation: Thanks be
to God! We promise you our love, encouragement, and prayers.
*Declaration of Faith by the
Congregation
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten
Son, our Lord,
who was conceived
by the Holy Spirit
born of the virgin Mary.
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell;
the third day he
rose again from the dead;
he ascended into
heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he shall
come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
I believe a holy catholic* church,
the communion of
saints,
the forgiveness of
sins,
the resurrection of
the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Operation Christmas Child: The Gems is again making up
shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child; sending Christmas gifts to children in
third world countries who would otherwise not receive one. If you would
like to help with this, the following items are needed: hard candy,
toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair items, soap, wash clothes, hairbrushes, combs,
socks, t-shirts, small dolls, sunglasses, pads of paper, pencil sharpeners,
coloring books, solar calculators or flashlights. We also need to enclose
$7 in each box to cover the shipping cost. If you want to donate towards
this in any way, we need the items by next Sunday, November 16th
or place a check in my mailbox. Last year with your help
we were able to send 20 shoeboxes. Thank you for your help. Mary Jo
Vander West, Gems Coordinator.
Even Jesus had a small group of
twelve Disciples: A
small group is a great place to get to know people on a more intimate level.
