WORSHIP SERVICE

August 23, 2009 – 10:00 a.m.

Instrumental Prelude

*Call to Worship:  “Come, Now Is the Time to Worship”

Chorus: Come, now is the time to worship,

              Come, now is the time to give your heart.

              Come, just as you are to worship,

              Come, just as you are before your God,

              Come.

One day every tongue

Will confess You are God,

One day every knee will bow.

Still the greatest treasure remains

For those who gladly choose You now. Chorus

Willing we choose to surrender our lives,

Willingly our knees will bow.

With all our heart soul mind and strength,

We gladly choose You now. Chorus

*Welcome

*Opening Prayer and Mutual Greeting

*Song of Praise:  “Praise the Lord with the Sound”

      Praise the Lord with the sound of trumpet,

      praise the Lord with the harp and lute,

      praise the Lord with the gentle-sounding flute.

      Praise the Lord in the field and forest,

      praise the Lord in the city square,

      praise the Lord anytime and anywhere.

      Praise the Lord in the wind and sunshine,

      praise the Lord in the dark of night,

      praise the Lord in the rain or snow or in the morning light.

      Praise the Lord in the deepest valley,

      praise the Lord on the highest hill,

      praise the Lord; never let your voice be still.

      Praise the Lord with the crashing cymbal,

      praise the Lord with the pipe and string,

      praise the Lord with the joyful songs you sing.

      Praise the Lord on a weekday morning,

      praise the Lord on a Sunday noon,

      praise the Lord by the light of sun or moon.

      Praise the Lord in the time of sorrow,

      praise the Lord in the time of joy,

      praise the Lord every moment; nothing let your praise destroy.

      Praise the Lord in the peace and quiet,

      praise the Lord in your work or play,

      praise the Lord everywhere in every way!

     Offertory Song:  “Count Your Blessings”

When upon life's billows you are tempest tossed,

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,

Count your many blessings- name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Refrain: Count your blessings, name them one by one;

              Count your blessings, see what God hath done.

              Count your blessings, name them one by one;

              Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?

Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?

Count your many blessings; every doubt will fly,

And you will be singing as the days go by.  Refrain

When you look at others with their lands and gold,

Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;

Count your many blessings; money cannot buy

Your reward in heaven nor your home on high.  Refrain

So amid the conflict, whether great or small,

Do not be discouraged; God is over all.

Count your many blessings; angels will attend,

Help and comfort give you to your journey's end.  Refrain

*Song of Preparation:  “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say”

I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Come unto me and rest;

lay down, O weary one, lay down your head upon my breast."

I came to Jesus as I was, so weary, worn, and sad;

I found in him a resting place, and he has made me glad.

I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Behold, I freely give

the living water; thirsty one, stoop down and drink and live."

I came to Jesus and I drank of that life-giving stream;

my thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him.

I heard the voice of Jesus say, "I am this dark world's light;

look unto me; your morn shall rise and all your day be bright."

I looked to Jesus and I found in him my star, my sun;

and in that light of life I'll walk till traveling days are done.

Scripture:  Exodus 5

Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the desert.’ ”

2 Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.”

3 Then they said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Now let us take a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God, or he may strike us with plagues or with the sword.”

4 But the king of Egypt said, “Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their labor? Get back to your work!” 5 Then Pharaoh said, “Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you are stopping them from working.”

6 That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and foremen in charge of the people: 7 “You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw. 8 But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don’t reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’ 9 Make the work harder for the men so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies.”

10 Then the slave drivers and the foremen went out and said to the people, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I will not give you any more straw. 11 Go and get your own straw wherever you can find it, but your work will not be reduced at all.’ ” 12 So the people scattered all over Egypt to gather stubble to use for straw. 13 The slave drivers kept pressing them, saying, “Complete the work required of you for each day, just as when you had straw.” 14 The Israelite foremen appointed by Pharaoh’s slave drivers were beaten and were asked, “Why didn’t you meet your quota of bricks yesterday or today, as before?”

15 Then the Israelite foremen went and appealed to Pharaoh: “Why have you treated your servants this way? 16 Your servants are given no straw, yet we are told, ‘Make bricks!’ Your servants are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people.”

17 Pharaoh said, “Lazy, that’s what you are—lazy! That is why you keep saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.’ 18 Now get to work. You will not be given any straw, yet you must produce your full quota of bricks.”

19 The Israelite foremen realized they were in trouble when they were told, “You are not to reduce the number of bricks required of you for each day.” 20 When they left Pharaoh, they found Moses and Aaron waiting to meet them, 21 and they said, “May the Lord look upon you and judge you! You have made us a stench to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

22 Moses returned to the Lord and said, “O Lord, why have you brought trouble upon this people? Is this why you sent me? 23 Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble upon this people, and you have not rescued your people at all.”

Hymn of Response and Offertory Song:                    “When Peace Like a River”

When peace like a river attendeth my way,

when sorrows like sea billows roll;

whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,

"It is well, it is well with my soul."

Refrain: It is well with my soul;

              it is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,

let this blest assurance control:

that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,

and has shed his own blood for my soul. Refrain

My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!

my sin, not in part, but the whole,

is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more;

praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! Refrain

O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,

the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;

the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend;

even so, it is well with my soul. Refrain

Pine Grove Church welcomes THE BURGESS BROTHERS for the last in the 2009 Summer Concert Series on Sunday, September 6 at 6:00PM here under the tent. The Burgess Brothers, from the greater Grand Rapids area, started six years ago, following their father’s death, when sister Lori asked the six brothers (Carl, Paul, Dave, Mark, Mike and Tim) to put together a CD for their mom on Mothers Day. A food pantry ministry in the area heard what they were doing and asked them to join two groups in a fund raising gospel concert. They did and have been singing since. A little bit of gospel, a little bit of country and a little bit of contemporary...any style that brings His Message in song.
